A faster fixed parameter algorithm for two-layer crossing minimization

چکیده
We give an algorithm that decides whether the bipartite crossing number of a given graph is at most k. The running time of the algorithm is upper bounded by 2 + n, where n is the number of vertices of the input graph, which improves the previously known algorithm due to Kobayashi et al. (TCS 2014) that runs in 2 log +n time. This result is based on a combinatorial upper bound on the number of two-layer drawings of a connected bipartite graph with a bounded crossing number.

Fixed Parameter Tractability of Crossing Minimization of Almost-Trees
We investigate exact crossing minimization for graphs that differ from trees by a small number of additional edges, for several variants of the crossing minimization problem. In particular, we provide fixed parameter tractable algorithms for the 1-page book crossing number, the 2-page book crossing number, and the minimum number of crossed edges in 1-page and 2-page book drawings.
متن کاملCrossing Minimization for 1-page and 2-page Drawings of Graphs with Bounded Treewidth
We investigate crossing minimization for 1-page and 2-page book drawings. We show that computing the 1-page crossing number is fixed-parameter tractable with respect to the number of crossings, that testing 2-page planarity is fixed-parameter tractable with respect to treewidth, and that computing the 2-page crossing number is fixed-parameter tractable with respect to the sum of the number of c...
متن کامل2-Layer Straightline Crossing Minimization: Performance of Exact and Heuristic Algorithms
We present algorithms for the two layer straightline crossing minimization problem that are able to compute exact optima. Our computational results lead us to the conclusion that there is no need for heuristics if one layer is fixed, even though the problem is NP-hard, and that for the general problem with two variable layers, true optima can be computed for sparse instances in which the smalle...
متن کاملExact and fixed-parameter algorithms for metro-line crossing minimization problems
A metro-line crossing minimization problem is to draw multiple lines on an underlying graph that models stations and rail tracks so that the number of crossings of lines becomes minimum. It has several variations by adding restrictions on how lines are drawn. Among those, there is one with a restriction that line terminals have to be drawn at a verge of a station, and it is known to be NP-hard ...
متن کاملFixed Parameter Algorithms for one-sided crossing minimization Revisited
We exhibit a small problem kernel for the problem onesided crossing minimization which plays an important role in graph drawing algorithms based on the Sugiyama layering approach. Moreover, we improve on the search tree algorithm developed in [5] and derive an O(1.4656k + kn) algorithm for this problem, where k upperbounds the number of tolerated crossings of straight lines involved in the draw...
